One Lesson from Jael

In a world where Deborahs lead, it’s okay to be Jael. Deborah led the army on the field; Jael won the war in her tent.

‎How are the mighty fallen? Hospitality. When Sisera asked for water, Jael gave him milk. When he lay down to rest, she covered him up. She was sweet, unsuspecting, unassuming, “just a woman”. Yet, she picked her hammer and her tent peg — her home-making tools — and dealt a deathly blow in one swift move.

‎She didn’t wait to consult with the prophetess or her husband, who were also at war. When the time came, she put her skill to use.

Don’t downplay your skills because you’re not “out there” for everyone to see you. There’s a place for you in the grand scheme of things. Win the quiet war in your tent.

‎Just like Jael.
